Naphazoline Hydrochloride
A white, crystalline, compound belonging to a class of drugs known as sympathomimetic amines (they cause an effect similar to that produced by stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system). It was patented in 1934 and came into general medical use in 1942.
C2 PHARMA is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of Naphazoline Hydrochloride.
Uses
It is primarily used to relieve allergy symptoms and act as a decongestant. Additionally, it functions as a CNS stimulant and blood vessel constrictor.
Mechanism of Action
In ophthalmology, Naphazoline works by temporarily narrowing the blood vessels in the eye.
It exhibits marked alpha-adrenergic activity that acts on alpha-receptors in the arterioles of the conjunctiva to produce constriction, which results in decreased congestion.
It also has a rapid action in reducing swelling when applied to mucus membranes and is primarily used to relieve redness (Red Eye) due to minor eye irritations, such as those caused by colds, dust, wind, smog, pollen, swimming, or wearing contact lenses.
In Rhinology, Naphazoline acts as a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages. These dilated blood vessels can cause congestion (a stuffy nose..) and arise from pollen hay fever, allergies or a common cold.
