Naphazoline Nitrate

Uses

Mechanism of Action

In Ophthalmology, Naphazoline nitrate works by narrowing blood vessels in the eye. It attaches to specific receptors, acting like natural chemicals in the body, such as norepinephrine. This triggers a process that increases cell calcium levels, causing the muscles around blood vessels to tighten.

In Rhinology, this reduces blood flow, helping to relieve swelling and congestion from colds or allergies. In ophthalmology, it shrinks blood vessels in the conjunctiva, reducing redness and irritation. The effects happen quickly, making it a fast-acting treatment for temporary relief.
