Naphazoline Nitrate
a White, crystalline powder. it is odorless and has a bitter taste. First developed in 1942 as a nasal formulation for Congestion.
C2 PHARMA is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of Naphazoline Nitrate.
Uses
It is primarily used as a topical nasal decongestant but is also included in ophthalmic solutions to alleviate ocular redness and irritation from minor irritants
Mechanism of Action
In Ophthalmology, Naphazoline nitrate works by narrowing blood vessels in the eye. It attaches to specific receptors, acting like natural chemicals in the body, such as norepinephrine. This triggers a process that increases cell calcium levels, causing the muscles around blood vessels to tighten.
In Rhinology, this reduces blood flow, helping to relieve swelling and congestion from colds or allergies. In ophthalmology, it shrinks blood vessels in the conjunctiva, reducing redness and irritation. The effects happen quickly, making it a fast-acting treatment for temporary relief.
